This is done according to the known procedural steps in Citation according to the Harvard reference system, and it is considered the most used method in the world by researchers in their academic research work, and the reason for using the Harvard format to document references in the Harvard paper is that it is an easy method to follow, suitable for many types of specialized Harvard paper, check The benefit of Citation in scientific research.

How is citation by Harvard format?

Harvard citation is an easy way to document. Where we find a lot of scientific research relied on it to write the sources, references and sources used in the Harvard paper, and this method is divided into two parts:

1. Citation within the Harvard paper:

The Harvard format of its first sections is citation in the text, in other words the citation in scientific Harvard paper is documented in the research pages themselves as follows:

  • If paragraphs of the references were used without conjugation or change in them, the literal transfer of references is placed between the two quotation marks, and after completing the Harvard writing of the quoted paragraph we follow it by Harvard writing the author’s family name, publication year and page number as follows (author’s family name, year of publication, page number ).
  • In the event that the scientific researcher quoted from the reference, but he modified it or worked on the quotation by conjugation, the Citation will be as follows: (the writer's family name, year of publication, page number).
  • And some things should be noted during Citation within the text of the letter, the most important of which is that when we write the name of the book in the text of the letter, we do not write it again in the Citation, but we are satisfied with (the year of printing, page number).
  • In “the event that there is more than one author”, we rely on the above form and start with the family names of both authors or authors and the rest of the Citation as it is as follows: (The family name of the first author, the family name of the second author, the year of printing, page number).
  • If the quotation is from the internet, we work to document it as follows: (the author of the article or the owner of the site, the year or date of the visit), and if the site is owned by a government agency or an independent entity, the Citation was as follows: (the name of the organization or organization that owns the site, the date and time of the visit ).

An example Harvard title: Leadership is concerned with organizing all personnel affairs in order to achieve the specified goals, and we can define the term leadership as influencing the behaviors and activities of individuals in order to achieve specific goals, and through this it is clear that the term leadership is broader than the term management, where Leadership behavior is more comprehensive, and from this it is clear that leadership differs from management (Abdul Muti, 2005, p. 102).

2. Citation in the references chapter:

The Harvard format, the second of its sections, is Citation in the references, in other words, the quotation in scientific research is documented in the references chapter at the end of the Harvard paper as follows:

  • If the book has one owner, the citation is as follows: “the author’s last name, the author’s name, the year of publication, the title of the book, the edition, the publishing house”.
  • If the source used in the research is on more than one part, the citation steps according to the Harvard format are as follows: “the author’s last name, the author’s name, the year of publication, the title of the book, the number of the part used in the research, the publishing house”.
  • If “the reference has more than one author”, the Citation is as follows: “the author’s family name, the family name of the second author and the family name of the third author, the name of the first author, the name of the second author and the name of the third author, year of publication, title of the book, edition, publishing house”.
  • The previous Citation system is followed with articles and scientific journals.
  • If the reference is a website, the same previous Citation method will be followed, along with Harvard writing the year and time of the visit.

Example Harvard title: Aman, Mohamed Hussein (2010), The Role of Social Work: Student Behavior in Schools, 2nd edition, Cairo: Teba for Publishing.

Example Harvard title: Ali, Khaled (2010), The new education theory, 2nd edition, Cairo: Teba for Publishing.

Example Harvard title: Mahmoud, Othman (2010), The online education, 2nd edition, Cairo: Teba for Publishing.

Important advice when authenticating according to the Harvard reference system:

  • When the Citation is for Arabic references and sources, the full name of the writer is written - and this is permissible - but if the Harvard paper is in the English language, we are satisfied with Harvard writing the first letter of the writer's name.
  • With regard to the Citation of the user from the internet sites, the article or topic link should be written in the footnotes and write https: This is for sites that do not include www.
  • Documenting pictures and diagrams in the same way as documenting references and sources.
  • Review the university guides for organizing work in graduate studies.
