List of journals

Journals are usually divided into two specialized sections. They are also called trade and art journals, and they are interested in business, industry, and craft. Consumer journals that are widely owned by bookstores and newsstands include:

Children's journals: These magazines provide stories, comics and topics of interest to children.
Hobbies journals: The audience for hobby magazines includes collectors of coins, stamps, and others. It also includes those interested in sports, private games, ornamentation, orchards, or photography.
Intellectual journals: Intellectual magazines provide an in-depth analysis of current, cultural and political events. These publications include: Opinion magazines that discuss current, economic, or political events, as well as fiction and poetry.
Scientific journals: Scientific journals are concerned with matters of science and scientific research, and issued by prestigious scientific institutions, and is considered the means to publish scientific research and a reference for science students. Among the most important are the medical scientific journals issued by medical institutions and medical unions and publish the latest findings of science in the fields of medicine.
Men's journals: Men's journals include articles or stories on topics such as adventure, promotion, men's fashion, and sports.
Women's journals: Women's journals provide ideas for skills such as cooking and decorating homes. Some women's periodicals deal with child-rearing and the role of women in society.
Service journals: Service journals include various tips on how to make something, medical and other advice, and self-reliance.

Journal citation index

A citation index is a kind of bibliographic index, an index of citations between publications, that makes it very easy for the user to determine which later documents refer to which earlier documents. For the first time, a form of quotation index is found in Hebrew religious literature of the 12th century. Legal citation indexes were found in the 18th century, and citations like Shepard's Citations (1873) have made them famous. In 1960, the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) of Eugene Garfield introduced the first citation index for published papers in academic journals, first the Science Citation Index (SCI) and the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) and the Citation Index of Arts and Humanities (AHCI).
